Update: Jun 5, 08
Well it's been a very long week. What started out being a week of watching Phoenix and uploading pics has turned into a nightmare.
It all started late Friday May 30. Indiana had one heck of a storm roll through. Click here to see the data at Weather Underground. This is a link to the data from the weather station at the house. Well the parents were out of town for the weekend and I was tasked with taken care of their pets while they were out. No big deal, a cat and some fish. So I wake up on Saturday, get some stuff done at the house and head over to dads to feed the pets. As I'm driving down the street to dads, I see people standing outside, high water and no power. "Oh No" I think as my father has the house with a garage under the house. So I drive a little faster and find the water is too deep to continue. Park the truck and run to dads. Power is out but no water in garage or basement. "Ok, No Problem. Get the generator running, start the sumps and we got lucky. Yeah!!!" or so I think. So I get the genie running spend the night (sat) monitoring things but it looks ok. Drive way pumps need clean and we lost one sump in the house, but we go through it. Every things going to be ok...we win. Mom and Dad come home on Sunday and I tell him my heroic tell of saving the house. Everyone is happy. Drinks for everyone!
Well, Indiana suffered some big problems from that storm, including power which is where dad works. So he spends Monday and Tuesday working until 10:00 at night. running trouble for the power company. Then on weds at 5:39am my father was walking out the door of his house to leave for work. Coat on, coffee in hand, and the power goes out. Now it's been raining since Friday. The ground is a saturated as it can get. The front and back yards are ponds. And now it has reached the top of the driveway. 1 hour later the water was over 4 feet deep. There was nothing anyone could do. Had the power been on, all the sumps working at 100%, sand bags ready and 15 guys standing by to use them and it couldn't be stop. The water was over 3 inches deep as it came down the top. This funneled down the drive way and into the garage and basement. Click on the gallery link below to see pics.
Update Jun 7, 08:
Photos will be in this gallery. I've Got some up now and more will be coming as we work are way farther into the basement. I also need to reorder them and clean them up, but for now, this is just a place to dump them so people can access them.
Update Jun 8, 08:
Well there is still quite a bit lost, it looks like the "Big Money" items, the furnace, washer, dryer, freezers, etc, are going to be ok. We got the dryer and the last freezer working today. Now it just waiting on the dumpster so we can start throwing the bad away. While the high heat, 90's, has helped dry things out, it can wear ya out quick.
