Sharp Shooter
Take a second and look at the photo below. Let this sink in. What you are looking at is a photo taken of a lander that is the size of a small car. It's plummeting to the surface of a planet, slowing down from more then 1000 mph to 150 mph as it falls from orbit. The camera is at a hight of around 472 miles from the lander. All of this drama is taken place over 100 million miles away. So far away that it takes light, and therefore radio and pictures, more then 15 minutes to get from mars to earth to let us know whats going on. Simply Amazing. I See this and know that there is no limit to what man can accomplish.
This second image will help put things into context for you. While it looks like the lander is heading directly to the crater, it is in fact about 12 miles in front of the crater.
And now the bad news. It would seem that there is a communication problem. NASA at this time is saying that it is a "transient" problem with the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. Hopefully full communication will be restored soon and then the science can start. More information can be found here.
