Using Your Photo Gallery
I would first like to start by saying Welcome! to the members of the Indiana Astronomical Society. I hope you like the gallery. We (Gary and I) have decided to host the gallery here because of some disk space issues we were having with the current host. We hope to have this integrated back into the IAS website as soon as possible, but we also wanted to give the users of the site access to the new features as soon as we could. This is so we can get feedback on what you, the user, think about new features. If you don't like them, or find them difficult to use, then they are no good.
With that in mind, let us start our first tutorial. What I want to talk about today is using the photo gallery. The new galley can be accessed here. The first thing you need to do is sign up for an account. Just click back to the Home Page and on the right hand side, click on Create new account. Fill out the form and follow the directions in the email. Next, send me an email and let me know that you have signed up for an account, and what what your username is. This way I can set the user of the gallery. If you do not have a gallery, again send me an email and I will create one for you.
When you first access your gallery you will notice that each picture or item has a drop down box. Using these you can edit, move, or delete items. Right now the highlight feature is disabled. Look around and you will see that they are very easy to use.
Now to add photos. Down at the bottom on the gallery on the left hand side in the link named "edit". Click on this and it will access a bigger menu for the gallery. Here you can create new albums, which will become sub-albums to your gallery. You can also add, edit or remove items.
When you click on add item you will be asked for the file you wish to upload and a description. Click on "More upload boxes" to upload multiple files. Right now there really isn't any file size restrictions but please be kind :). If you get and error while uploading multiple files, try reducing the file size and upload them one at a time.
I have a few requests. Please do not change the name of your gallery. You can change the title, summery, description, and add/remove keywords, but please do not rename the gallery. Also, do not password protect your gallery. If you do not wish to have your pictures on the website let us know and we will remove them, but the gallery is to be public accessible.
Right now the comment section for the photos is disabled. This is due to a bug in the code that we are still trying to work out. The same is true with highlight. Again please bear with us as we get these new features up and running.
I think that's enough for now. More coming later! Again, please email me or Gary with any problems
