These are from Ellsworth AFB in South Dekota. Not too far from Mount Rushmore, Black hills area.
Open as a WWII bomber based, grew into a strategic air command site ( nuclear bombers) and
now controls surveillance satellites.

Trip to Cape Canaveral
Submitted by geek on Thu, 11/05/2009 - 11:14Heading to Florida! Leave in the morning to spend a week at Cape Canaveral. The plan was to go down for the shuttle launch: spend 2-3 days touring the Cape, then watch the launch, grab some sun and surf. Well, when does anything ever go as planned. :) First, the shuttle launch was moved till the following week. Oh well. Maybe we will get to see something else. There is a Delta 4 going up, so we will see. Now looking at the radar it looks like there is a hurricane maybe heading that way. Will defiantly need to keep an eye on it.

I've included a couple of shots of Crazy Horse at the end. I would have liked to have had more, but it was raining. So I've just grouped them together with Rushmore.
Ares 1-X Launch Take 2
Submitted by geek on Wed, 10/28/2009 - 07:06Well, due to some bad timing with a cargo ship and then problems with the weather, the 1-X did not launch yesterday, but they're trying again today!
It's 7:00 and the clocks counting at T minus 40 mins. There is a built in hold at 4:00 min that will prob take longer then the planned 20 min. Right now they are talking about a launch attempt around 8:30 - 9:00. The big question is: Will the weather hold?

Minuteman Missile National Historic Site
Submitted by geek on Tue, 10/27/2009 - 05:21Wow, that's a mouthful. Well right outside of Bad Lands National Park on 90 about half way to Wall, is this historic site. It is an ex-missile site that has been converted to kind of a show piece.

Badlands, South Dakota
Submitted by geek on Mon, 10/26/2009 - 08:33Ok, well I finished some of the pictures from my trip out west. Here are some shots of the Badlands National Park in SD. This has to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. It's a completely different type of place and landscape then anywhere else I've ever been. Easy to imagine one's self on a different planet, in a different time.
